1. From The Principal

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 2 and a very Happy Easter season to all of you.

During this Easter season we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the possibilities that new life offers to us. This is the invitation contained in the Easter story, an invitation to embrace life and to explore new possibilities that life itself presents. A necessary part of the Easter story is the events of Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday. Jesus endured suffering, humiliation and death before the transformation and transcendence of the resurrection. This is true for us in our own lives too. We all go through times when life is difficult and problems seem insurmountable. The Easter story gives us hope that this is not the end of the story, that our own suffering, humiliation and trials can be overcome and transformed into something worthwhile and life affirming. We are invited to embrace challenges as a way of growing and developing in better people in communion with each other and with the transcendent other we label as God.

Mini Vinnies’ Bake Sale

Congratulations to our Mini Vinnies Social Justice Group on their very successful Bake Sale at the end of last term. Across the school, yummy goods, most home made with love, were bought, eaten and enjoyed raising money to go to Caritas Australia and the work that they do for underprivileged people in developing countries.

School Photos

This year’s school photos have now been taken and orders should be available soon. Thank you to all of our students for the way they presented on the day and for their cooperation and patience during the disruption that such as day can bring. We hope that the finished photos bring joy to our families and serve as a lasting positive memento of this year in their schooling journey.

Grandparents’ and Special Persons’ Day 2019

Yesterday we once again held our annual day of welcome for Grandparents and others special in the lives of our children. It was wonderful to see many familiar faces and some new ones also. We began the day with Mass celebrated by our Parish Priest, Fr Martin Tanti, and then moved into House Groups for a variety of games and activities. The morning concluded with morning tea thanks to the generosity of our families and coordinated by Melanie Granata. This day is eagerly anticipated by our children each year and they delight in having their special visitors with them. A big thank you to all Grandparents and special friends who were able to attend and we look forward to having you with us again next year.

Changes to Yard Duty Procedures and Break Organisation

We have made a number of changes to supervision and break arrangements that will continue through this term and on through the year with an emphasis on student safety and ensuring a positive climate on our yard. I will be sending details of these changes home to parents later in the week and welcome any feedback on this once you receive the communication.

Upcoming Events

  • Please check in with the P&F News in this newsletter. We have Mothers Day events coming up and we are again holding a Family Bush Dance in a couple of week’s time (don’t forget to buy your tickets early to avoid disappointment).
  • Our Parish Priest, Fr Martin Tanti, will be officially installed in his new role on Sunday 12th May at a Mass at 10 am at St Joseph’s Church, Otter Street, Collingwood, and all are welcome to attend this Mass.
  • There is a Parent Information Session for  our Human Sexuality program for parents of children in Grade 4, 5 and 6 on Thursday 9th of May at 7pm in Aikenhead Hall, parents who are new to this program or those wanting to refresh their knowledge of what is covered are warmly invited to attend.
  • Please keep an eye on the school calendar for other events and ensure that you are receiving the weekly bulletin to stay ahead of the organisation game.

Until next time, respectfully, Daniel 🙂
