Newsletter - End of Term 3 September

1. From The Principal

Dear Families,

Term 3 has certainly lived up to its reputation as one full of activities, learning and teaching. Our days and weeks have been packed with excellent and engaging learning opportunities for all classes. Students on the whole have worked very hard and deserve a relaxing break over the next two weeks.

Principal Pilgrimage

Mr Ryan returns home from his Holy Land Pilgrimage this evening.  Over the past two weeks he has been following the footsteps of Jesus and visiting amazing places such as Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Jericho, Nazareth, Petra and the Dead Sea.  We look forward to hearing more about his travel adventures next term.

First Holy Communion

Congratulations to all the students in year 3 and 4 who celebrated their First Holy Communion on Sunday 8th September, 10:30am at St. John’s Church. Thank you to Mrs. Nolan, Ms. Taylor and Mrs. Thwaites for preparing the children to receive the Sacrament of First Communion.

Excursion to Bargoonga Nganjin, North Fitzroy Library

Thank you to Mrs. Stasi for organising a wonderful excursion to see the Black Hole Theatre’s performance of ‘The Last Lighthouse Keeper’ at the North Fitzroy library.  The story was told with puppetry, music, visuals and humour, and hardly any dialogue.  Students were engaged and enthralled as its characters came to life to share a story of longing and companionship.  A big thank you to Kylie Carlson, (Coordinator Community Learning and Partnerships) at Fitzroy North library for inviting us to come along. A great day was had by all.

Thank you Parent Helpers

Thank you to all the parents and family members who have volunteered their time and effort to come and help out in the classroom, on excursions or in any other way this term.  Your ongoing support is very much appreciated and valued by all the staff and students at St. John’s School.

P-4 Swimming Program

The two week Swimming program at Collingwood Leisure Centre was enjoyed by all students in years Prep -Four. It was great do see how much the students became more confident in their swimming abilities and make progress.  Thank you to all family members who helped out and made this program a success.

SRC’s This Sporting Life

It was great to see so many children dress up in their favourite sport’s team gear on Wednesday for the SRC’s “This Sporting Life” day.  Thank you Mrs Nolan, the SRC and year 6 leaders for planning a fun filled day with wonderful activities. Thank you also to the P&F for organising the Footy themed lunch orders.

School Uniform

In Term 4 all students are expected to wear their summer uniform.  In line with our Sunsmart Policy, students are required wear their school hats and sunscreen each day while outside. If your child has lost their hat there are new ones available at the office for $10.

Looking forward to seeing you all next term,

Melanie Granata

Deputy Principal
