SCHOOL RESUMES MONDAY JULY 17TH

A message from Mr Ryan

I sincerely thank all members of our school community for your prayerful support during my parents’ recent illnesses, and especially with their subsequent passing within days of each other.
The words and sentiments of our children were heartwarming and I am grateful for the support extended by our Parish Priest, staff and parents as well.
My parents had a wonderfully close relationship and my family are reassured by the fact that John and Shirley are united in eternal life, as they were for over 51 years in earthly life, and that they are both at peace.
Daniel Ryan

Bendigo Bank Grant

Thanks to the fine work of Lisa Gatt, the school received notification last month that we were successful in our grant application to the Bendigo Bank, receiving the full amount we applied for, $15, 000.

A cheque was presented to our school community at today’s assembly. This money will pay for our brand new junior playground equipment which will be installed during the first week in term 3! A huge thank you to the Bendigo Bank of Clifton Hill North Fitzroy branch, their support of our school over the years has been outstanding.

Working bee

Thank you to everyone that helped at the Working Bee on Saturday 17th June. We had a great turnout, I was very pleased to see so many helpers. We accomplished a lot.  A very big thank you to Simon Howe for his amazing project managing skills, and to Gina Mele for coordinating the day.  The school yard looks fantastic! Well done to all those who helped.

Cross Country Congratulations

Congratulations to Ned and Thierry who made it through to Division level cross country. Thierry has just competed in the Regional competition and has made it through to State level. We wish Thierry the best of luck next term when he competes.

Interschool Sports

Well done to the year 5/6s who participated in the Inter school sports this term. The St. John’s students were exceptionally well behaved and demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship in Soccer and T-Ball.  A very big congratulations to our Division 2 soccer team who came first in the inter school soccer competition.  They currently sit at the top of the ladder.  A great achievement.

SRC PJ and Movie Day

Thank you to Mrs Nolan and the SRC who organised our PJ and Movie Day.  Money raised will be sent to Caritas to help those in need. The food stall organised by the Grade 5/6 students was enjoyed by all the students.

Token Design Winner

The winner of our Positive Behaviour Token was awarded to Amelia Quilty.  Well done Amelia, her peacock design showed creativity. Congratulations!

Happy Holidays

Wishing all families a very happy, safe and relaxing holiday. I look forward to seeing you all next term.

3. From The P&F

So what’s happened this month?

We’ve had a very busy month on the fundraising and activity side.  I’m sure everyone’s homes now are full of beautiful scent following the successful candle drive.  Those that attended the Trivia Night, were once again entertained by our quizmaster, Jonathan Quilty.

We had another lunch order day – I’m not sure who gets more excited about these the children or the parents when they realise they don’t have to make lunch in the mornings.  And then some of our students took part in the inflatables/indoor sports activity on the student free day.

Thank you to everyone who participated in these various events and those people working hard to make all this happen.

All up during the last month we have raised approximately $3,900. It is important to note with the ongoing grant applications, every dollar we raise can potentially be doubled through obtaining matching grants.

Junior Play Equipment

At this morning’s assembly, the Clifton Hill/Fitzroy Community Branch of Bendigo Bank presented us with a cheque for $16,500 towards the junior playground equipment.  The equipment has already been ordered and plans are for this to be installed during the first week of term three along with some more trees.

Major Raffle

Raffle tickets are going home with children today for the major raffle.  We have fantastic prizes that have been generously donated by families within the school community so our aim is to make the most of these and sell as many raffle tickets as possible.

All families are getting a book of 20 tickets and we ask that they sell as many tickets as possible to friends, family, neighbours, co-workers etc.

More ticket books are available at the office.  We will also be selling these tickets to the public on shopping strips so a call will go out for volunteers next term to help with this.

The major raffle will be drawn at the cocktail party later in the year.

Bendigo Bank – School Banking

We have decided to move the school banking program over to our local Bendigo Bank Community Branch, obviously this is more convenient than the Commonwealth Bank, but more importantly it allows to nurture this important relationship.

Bendigo have provided funding to our school on several occasions and will continue to do so in the future so it is important that we give them the support to be able to do this.  More information will come out soon and members of the bank will be available early term 3 at assembly to assist with opening up accounts.

(Those that wish to keep their Commonwealth Accounts can do so, however we will no longer be promoting the Commonwealth School Banking program).

Major Fundraiser – Cocktail party

The next emphasis will be on gathering donations for silent and live auction items for our cocktail party in Early September.  We really need all hands on deck for this and the whole school community involved in seeking donations.

Hard copies of the donation request flyers are available from the school office and an email version has been distributed for those that wish to request donations by email.

We’re trying a new approach with the classroom hampers – stay tuned.
